Crucibles of Leadership

Leaders in many top organizations have found that the ability to learn from experience distinguishes great leaders from average leaders. It is also critical to building a pipeline of capable leaders. The most fertile of these experiences are crucibles — times of trial and failure as well success. Crucibles are transformative experiences that force aspiring leaders to examine who they are, what matters to them and what they can learn from success and failure. They teach lessons about leading and about learning.

This hands-on, interactive workshop will introduce the research and ideas based on the "Crucibles of Leadership" and its relevance and application to Asian American Professionals.

    • Understand how great leaders learn from experience and why this is important
    • Understand one’s ambitions, motivations, and learning style as a way to make use of experiences as learning opportunities
    • Begin developing a personal learning strategy as a basis for enhancing your individual leadership

Based on the book, Crucibles of Leadership: How to Learn from Experience to Become a Great Leader by Dr. Robert J. Thomas, executive director of the Accenture Institute for High Performance, this research-based approach to Leadership Development highlights an approach to leader development that calls upon crucible experiences.
